Portraits

In the studio
Proudly based in the historic Shaw Lodge Mill (part of Everybody Arts) Halifax, West Yorkshire. This grade II listed former textile mill is an experience in itself. Raw, real and bathed in pockets of wonderful light - everything you need for a studio that offers something just a little bit different.
I offer a range of studio packages including corporate headshots, actor/performer headshots, creative portraits and everything in-between.
In 2024 I am offering regular Thursday session slots (that you can book directly below) alongside my usual bespoke bookings - feel free to get in touch to talk through what works best for you. I’ve also pulled together some FAQs in case you’ve read this and have more questions than answers.
The box on the right somehow ended up bigger than this one so we’re just filling space down here. Nothing to see.
Everywhere else
What does ‘everywhere else’ mean? We’re talking any shoot that isn’t in the studio. Your house. Your business. That spot you love. Somewhere I love. A coffee shop. My house. No, scratch that last one (though stranger shoots have happened).
I know packages are great when you’re browsing - we all want to know how much money we’re talking, right? Whilst I offer set packages in the studio, I feel things work best on a shoot by shoot basis for everything else. Working up a shoot approach based on exactly what you need, not what I decided to offer before we met.
We might be talking environmental portraits out and about, a first portfolio shoot (or a refresh) or some branding shots for you and your business. Let’s not box ourselves in.
If you want to get the ball rolling, just pick up the red telephone* or get in touch using a convenient page dedicated to getting in touch.
*apology for the niche Adam West Batman reference for those that didn’t get it. For everyone else, I don’t know what that says about us. Are we cool? I think we might be.

Book an appointment.
Hey you, get booked!
I’ve got a lovely little discount running on sessions booked in the early new year. Currently available for a steal at £125 (usually £175) for 1.5 hours and four fully retouched images (Additional images available for purchase for £20 per image). Bookable slots are planned for Thursdays only at the moment, but if that doesn’t work we can arrange a time to suit you. You can find out more in my handy FAQs. Be a gem and read ‘em, they took ages to write.
FAQs

For my regular studio sessions (currently running on Thursdays) you can book directly on this page. For dates/times outside of those hours or for different types of shoots just ping me an email or use the Get in Touch feature on this site

I always start with a brew and a chat. We’ll get to know one another and settle ourselves into the shoot. I love music and welcome your suggestions for the playlist, though I don’t guarantee everything you suggest will make the cut. I often work through a few different styles of lighting, colour and backdrops - checking in with you as we shoot to see what’s working for you. I’m also happy to give a little or a lot of direction depending on how comfortable you feel in front of camera. I aim to create as relaxed an environment as possible and hope you feel that on your visit.

Wear whatever you feel the most comfortable in and like yourself. If possible it’s good to avoid bold/clashing patterns but if that’s your jam we’ll absolutely make it work. For any shoot I recommend bringing a few options with you.
-
Send me another person’s photography? How dare you!
No please, go for it! I’d love to know what you’ve got in mind.

The studio is located in the incredible Everybody Arts Building on Shaw Lane, Halifax (HX3 9ET). It’s a characterful former textile mill with many of the orginal walls, floors, windows and fixtures still in place. This means there are so many great options for shooting outside of the studio itself. There is a kitchen and bathroom on the studio floor with changing options in the studio.

A few laps of the studio works a treat. Perhaps a few stretches? Being serious, have a read of the website, ask me questions, try and give yourself time on the day before and after so you’re not in a rush.
-
All images receive an initial (light) edit and are shared with you via an online gallery for you to pick your favourites. The initial gallery will be with you within 2 weeks of the shoot date, sometimes sooner depending on how busy it is at the time. Once I have your selections I aim to deliver within two weeks. If you have a print/publication deadline let me know as soon as you can and I’ll do everything in my power to make sure we hit it.

Damn skippy you can. Studio, outside, bit of both - whatever you want, I can provide a bespoke quote based on your needs.
-
I run a barter system. Bring an item of value to your shoot and we’ll start from there. Oh, and you can pay a deposit through the booking portal or via invoice (which I’ll send prior to our shoot). I take a 50% deposit on all shoots because = small business. I can offer payment plans too.

Firstly, do not worry. Life happens! Try and provide me with as much notice as possible and we’ll get you re-booked. Deposits are non-refundable.
